I took Kris Jenner’s branding masterclass, here’s what I learned.
on personal branding and social media content creation
Love the Kardashians or hate them, you cant deny they got that branding and marketing shit on lock. I don’t think SKIMS, Kylie Cosmetics or Good American need any introduction. Whether you’re a fan of their influence or simply curious about their strategies, there’s no denying they’ve cracked the code on building iconic brands.
Curious about how they’ve done it? So was I. From defining your unique value to creating a brand that people can’t stop talking about, the lessons were both practical and eye-opening. If you’re serious about leveling up your own brand or business, there’s a lot to learn from the woman who turned her family into a billion dollar empire.
After watching 11 modules, here are the key takeaways:
Figure out who you are, what your story is, and what you want to be known for.
"How do you build a successful personal brand? “The first step is to figure out who you are, what your story is, and what you want to be known for,” Kris says. “How do you want the world to see you? What are our core values? And what’s the legacy you want to leave behind?”
Decide what you want to be known for and position yourself accordingly. Yes, you can leverage your past as it is a part of your story but you do not have to live there. Online we have the opportunity to create and influence how we want to be perceived by others. Understanding what we want to be known for is crucial—it gives us direction and allows us to create with strategy, intention, and purpose, rather than producing random, haphazard content.
Find the white space.
“No matter how crowded a market is, there is room for you.”
Your uniqueness and how you position yourself within the market will set you apart.
After you analyze the market, look for the gaps or “white space”. Don’t go in doing the exact same thing that everyone else is doing - that is how you blend in. You stand out by doing something different. Look at how things are being done and ask yourself what you could do differently.
“Never let yourself be seen as following your predecessor’s path. If you do you will never surpass him. You must physically demonstrate your difference by establishing a style and symbolism that sets you apart.” - 48 Laws of Power
While it is okay to receive inspiration from others, your power is in your uniqueness. How you see things, your experiences, your connections, your preferences, what excites you. All of these things make you, you. When you embrace and walk in your uniqueness, you can never be replicated.
“Follow the master’s example, but not his path. Demonstrate your difference. Establish your own style” - 48 Laws of Power
Keep track of your social media metrics.
Audience Growth Rate- the rate at which you gain followers
It’s not how many followers you have, but the rate at which you gain new followers that is important to analyze. If you're posting consistently but your audience isn’t growing, you may want to tweak and experiment with different types of content to find what resonates with your audience. I posted for years without increasing my following at all but once I started to take note of what types of content led to an increase in followers I could continue to replicate that process.
Engagement rate - the rate at which people are engaging with your content
For the longest I thought the algorithm was broken. But once I truly understood how social media works, I was able to able to accept this hard truth - if your content is not getting any engagement, you need to focus on learning to create better content. Social media was meant to boost activity amongst its users. Content that makes people share, like and comment will continuously be pushed out to larger audiences. If you create content that makes users want to engage with it - it will be pushed more and more by the algorithm. That’s how the game goes. Now learning how to create this type of “viral” content is a whole different conversation but for now asking the following questions will be very helpful:
Was there a specific type of post that really resonated with your audience?
What did you do differently with that post than the others (think of video/post length, voiceover, visuals, edits, value, structure)?
If it got a lot of engagement, get curious to figure out why that is and see if you can continue to experiment and replicate that success.
Create structure for your days.
Create and follow a daily schedule to highlight your priorities and goals for the day. Be intentional about how you spend your days and prioritize the time you do have. Eat, rest and play when you need to.
Bonus Tip: Create a social media content calendar.
Using a social media calendar changed everything for me. Knowing what I am going to post, when I am going post, and on which platforms I am going to post made my life so much easier. I used to feel like I was always chasing ideas and posting random stuff. Now my content is organized and intentional. I wake up to a growing community with lots of engagement and comments every day - something that never used to happen.
I’ve been working on a master content creation template in Notion. I will share with you all once it’s ready. 😙
Make Your Own Secret Sauce
“Kris attributes her family’s popularity to their willingness to be themselves, unfiltered. On Keeping Up With the Kardashians and other family shows, Kris and her family reveal a lot about their lives, good and bad. You don’t have to share everything, but you shouldn’t feel like you’re oversharing when you show your fans the vulnerable and even mundane moments in your life.”
Dont be afraid to pull back the veil and show vulnerable moments as that is when connections are made. I’m not saying to turn your social media into a diary, but what I am saying is people like people that they can relate to. We all have similar challenges and struggles and seeing someone that is experiencing something that you’ve experienced builds rapport and relatability. Don’t aim to present yourself as perfect, aim to be authentic.
In Conclusion
Undoubtedly, Kris Jenner has turned her family into one of the most powerful brands in the world. Whether you love or hate the Kardashians, there’s no denying their marketing and branding genius. From defining your unique value to discovering your white space in the market, the lessons are essential for anyone serious about building a standout brand.
If you want to succeed in a crowded market, you need to embrace your uniqueness, track your social media metrics to ensure you are growing, be willing to pivot when necessary and create a daily structure that prioritizes your goals. Also, don’t be afraid to show the vulnerable sides of yourself—authenticity is key to making lasting connections.
By taking a strategic approach, staying consistent, and embracing your own “secret sauce,” you’ll set yourself apart and build a brand that resonates deeply with your audience. That is how you create something unforgettable.
